15-year-old boy struck, killed by River Line train in Palmyra, Burlington County in New Jersey


PALMYRA, New Jersey (WPVI) — A 15-year-old boy was struck and killed by a River Line train in Palmyra, Burlington County.

It happened around 8:15 a.m. Thursday at the Chestnut Street crossing.

There was no immediate word on the circumstances of this incident.

The victim was a Palmyra student-athlete, officials said, but his name has not been released.

“This news comes as a tremendous shock and we are still struggling with our own emotions as we try to comprehend what has occurred,” said the Palmyra Board of Education in a statement.

A total of 29 people were on board the train at the time. There were no injuries to any of the passengers.

New Jersey Transit police are investigating.

Service had been suspended but has since resumed.

Grief counselors will be at the school Friday (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and Saturday (8 a.m. – 2 p.m.) to assist the community during this difficult time.
