CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Huntington’s disease is a rare genetic disorder that causes nerve cells in the brain to decay over time. There is no cure — but event coordinator Samantha Cox hopes that next month’s Team Hope Walk in Loda can help change that.
The seventh annual Team Hope Walk for Huntington’s disease will stroll through Loda on Sept. 7. It will start at 8 a.m. at the Lakeview Country Club.
Cox has firsthand experience with the illness, as she and her brother have been diagnosed. Her mother recently passed from it. She said the goal behind the Team Hope Walk is to raise money and awareness towards Huntington’s disease.
After the morning walk, there will be a free “kids zone” featuring bounce houses, a visit from a couple familiar royal sisters, and face painting. There will also be a golf outing, which Cox said is now full, but is still accepting sponsors.
Dinner will be served later in the day with live music and a silent auction.
