Community Spotlight: Taylorville's National Night Out

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Can’t attend a National Night Out near you this Tuesday evening? No worries — the Taylorville Police Department is hosting their National Night Out this Friday from 5 – 8 p.m.

It will be at the Christian County Fairgrounds in Taylorville. Officer Kirsten Beaman discussed their plans with WCIA’s Taylor Mitchell.

While the National Night Out is traditionally hosted on the second Tuesday of August each year, Beaman said a conflict arose with the venue their event is usually held at. Now, the celebration will be held this Friday, August 9.

The family-friendly event is what Beaman describes as “a big block party.” This year will include an inflatable bounce house, obstacle course and axe-throwing, a raffle, and a dunk tank featuring community members for the benefit of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois.

Beaman said the National Night Out is a great opportunity to connect law enforcement members with their communities, and for citizens to comfortably share their concerns.
