SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Monday, Utah! The high heat continues with temperatures climbing into the triple-digits across a large part of the state.
Heat-related alerts are in place through Tuesday night due to a strong ridge of high pressure to the south. Temperatures will climb above average statewide with most areas five to eight degrees above normal this afternoon, and closer to 10 degrees above normal in northern Utah on Tuesday.
Building heat through Tuesday could bring a new record-high to Salt Lake City, with a high of 103 degrees forecast — the current record is 102 degrees from 2019.
Monsoonal moisture will also continue, bringing daily chances for showers and thunderstorms in southern and parts of central/eastern Utah.
Each afternoon and evening, there will be a higher risk of heavy rain and flash flooding in sensitive areas like slot canyons, dry washes, recent burn scars, and steep terrain.
The weather pattern remains mostly unchanged through midweek, with persistent high pressure over our region.
Hot temperatures will stick around Wednesday, and monsoonal moisture will continue affecting southern Utah.
This means daily chances of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms, especially over higher terrain, increasing later in the week. If you’re planning outdoor activities in central or southern Utah, be aware of the risk of heavy rain and flash flooding in slot canyons, dry washes, or steep areas.
By the end of the week, the ridge is expected to weaken, bringing slightly cooler temperatures closer to seasonal norms. Stay tuned!
