CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Two people with connections to the Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois are working at the Paris Olympic Games this summer.
Steve Raquel is the Clinical Assistant Professor of Business Administration. But before the school year starts back up, he is spending time working with sponsors at the 2024 Summer Games.
This marks Raquel’s fifth Olympics, having also worked in the 1996, 1998, 2000, and 2002 Olympic Games. But this time — over two decades later — he is not working alone.
His daughter, Kayt Raquel, is also working this year’s games as a team liaison for the Australian Women’s Olympic Water Polo team. Kayt is a Class of 2022 graduate and also studied within the Gies College of Business. Her time at the U of I prepared her for her current position at Google, where she works outside of her equally-impressive summer job.
