RICH COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — A new fire sparked in northern Utah on Tuesday afternoon, spreading to about 400 acres, according to officials.
The Rich County Sheriff’s Office posted an emergency alert on social media around 5 p.m. Tuesday to say the fire was burning near Big Creek Road and Big Creek Canyon.
“County, state and federal personnel are working to contain the fire,” the sheriff’s office said. “Please stay clear of the area of Randolph and Big Creek Road.”
Utah Fire Info said the new blaze was called the Dry Fork Fire, and said early estimates of the size of the fire varied. The Rich County Sheriff’s Office said the fire was 20 to 30 acres, but the Utah Wildfire Dashboard later said the fire was 400 acres.
Just before 6 p.m., the sheriff’s office said the fire was moving and ranchers were being allowed to “retrieve their stock at their own risk.”
There is no further information at this time.
