TOLONO, Ill. (WCIA) — For more than two decades, there have been two hairdressers in Our Town Tolono connecting with the community right in their salon chairs. After doing hair together near the U of I campus, Lorrie Eckstein and Tiffany Freese took a leap of faith and started a business of their own.
“My passion was to always own my own salon,” Eckstein said.
When the duo met, they both agreed, they just “clicked.” But, it wasn’t always easy to get their own salon off the ground. When Eckstein approached Freese with the idea at first, she was shut down.
After a little bit of convincing, “Absolute Salon” was born.
“Pretty much anyone that comes in here is our family and our friends,” Eckstein said.
When you sit down in their salon chairs, they said it’s all about trust, loyalty and confidence.
“Sometimes I really feel they do come to us for answers. They may tell us things they don’t tell other people,” Freese said. “I love my clients.”
Who knew that while they were creating relationships with customers, a second family would be born?
“I can’t imagine being anywhere else or doing anything else,” Freese elaborated.
They both love their tight-knit town and are happy to be somewhere that will always have their backs. When you walk in the doors, their goal is to spread that love and support right back into their community.
“These people are my family,” Freese said.
Their salon is right off Route 45 across the street from Subway. Not too far from there is where you’ll find the WCIA news team on Friday, Aug. 9 for Our Town Tolono.
