SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A 17-year-old who was accused of a drive-by shooting in the Fairpark neighborhood was arrested by detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Gang Unit Thursday.
According to police, just before 1:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 4, officers who were assigned to the Pioneer Patrol Division heard multiple gunshots followed by a car speeding off near 200 N and 1300 W while they were on an unrelated call for service.
Officers searched the area but did not initially find the car. Police spoke with witnesses in the area and worked to collect evidence.
Detectives with the SLCPD Gang Unit took over the investigation and were able to locate the car and safely take the 17-year-old into custody in Sandy.
Detectives reportedly recovered a handgun and AR-15 style rifle from the car following a court-authorized search warrant. The 17-year-old was booked into the Salt Lake Valley Detention Center.
There were no injuries reported.
As the suspect is a juvenile, no other personal information is being released.
