School bus carrying 40 students crashes head-on into garbage truck in Spanish Fork, injuries reported


SPANISH FORK, Utah (ABC4) — A school bus with 40 students onboard got into a head-on crash with a garbage truck in Spanish Fork Thursday afternoon, according to Spanish Fork Police.

At around 3 p.m. on Aug. 8, police responded to the intersection of 630 West 400 North regarding the collision. The garbage truck was heading eastbound on 400 North while the school bus was heading westbound on 400 North.

The school bus tried to turn southbound towards the new Spanish Fork High School when the crash occurred, officials said.

“SFPD and SFFE on scene of head on collision with school bus vs garbage truck 400 N 630 W,” Spanish Fork Police, Fire & EMS wrote on X.

The Washington School District school bus was carrying the Dixie High School girls soccer team, according to Lt. Cory Slaymaker, Spanish Fork Police. The team was in town for a match with the Spanish Fork team.

Several injuries were reported — with three girls taken to the hospital, all conscious and in non-critical condition. The garbage truck driver was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The cause of this crash is currently being investigated.
