Springfield men jailed after illegal drugs, guns found in police search



SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Two men were arrested in Springfield on Friday after police found illegal guns and substances in their possession.

A search warrant was conducted at 8:20 p.m. near East Clear Lake Avenue and South Wesley Street. Authorities located two fully automatic AK rifles, one AR-style rifle, and three pistols — one of which had a switch conversion kit. They also found 28 grams of crack cocaine and five bottles of promethazine.

20-year-old Darnell Wilson Jr. and 19-year-old Kevin A. Spearman Jr., both of Springfield, were arrested and taken to the Sangamon County Jail.

Wilson was charged with unlawful possession of controlled substance with intent to deliver, manufacture and delivery of cocaine, possession of a machine gun automatic weapon, and possession of a firearm-no FOID. Spearman was charged with unlawful possession of controlled substance with intent to deliver, armed violence, unlawful use of a weapon-machine gun, unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and possession of a stolen firearm.
