State Police arrest Lovington teacher for possessing child pornography

SULLIVAN, Ill. (WCIA) — Illinois State Police said they arrested a teacher who works at Lovington Grade School for possessing child pornography.

Through their CyberTip service, ISP investigated a Yahoo email account connected to “suspicious internet activity,” according to a release from the Moultrie County State’s Attorney. State Police were able to link the account to 38-year-old Christopher Davis of Sullivan, where they found several images of child pornography.

In interviews with Illinois State Police on Wednesday, Davis admitted to viewing child pornography and saving images of child pornography from online to a personal device. He was arrested on Thursday for offenses related to the possession of child pornography.

ISP officials also noted that Davis works at Lovington Grade School as a 6th grade teacher. WCIA reached out to the school’s principal for comment, but had not heard back yet.

Investigators said so far, they found that all of Davis’ images came from the Internet and none of the images were of local children.

Davis is scheduled to appear in court on Friday afternoon for a detention hearing. Police said their investigation is ongoing.

“Exploitation of a child is terrible, criminal conduct,” ISP Director Brendan Kelly said in a statement. “ISP special agents are committed to relentlessly pursuing justice and safety for all children every day.”
