CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — One Champaign nonprofit is trying to spread a message on National Voter Registration Day.
United Way of Champaign County took to social media to encourage people to register to vote. “Your voice matters, and voting is one of the most powerful ways to create change in your community and beyond,” the organization said.
The next chance for people to vote is in 48 days, when U.S. House and Presidential elections take place. Sue Grey, United Way’s president, said that even if one is already registered, they should check their personal information before heading to the polls.
“Maybe they’ve moved or got married and their name changed or something like that,” Grey said. “So it’s a good day just to remind yourself to get out there and get registered so when the day comes and you want to go vote, you’re all ready to go.”
