DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A decade-old coffee shop at Danville High School is about to take their roast on the road.
A few months ago, teacher and coffee shop leader, Kimberly Fraser, approached the school board with an idea. Next week, the Viking Perks and Bistro Coffee Shop will officially expand their brewing business with a brand new coffee trailer.
Through the trailer, District 118’s special education students will get the opportunity to work and learn hands-on occupational skills like cashing checks, management, buying items for cooking lessons and more. Students will also earn the appropriate licensure to prepare them for jobs after graduation.
To start out, the trailer will exclusively serve coffee and beverages for cash purchase only. Food and credit card purchases are expected to be added later this school year.
On opening day, three students will serve school district staff from 7:30-8:15 a.m. and 10-11 a.m.
